Cute a Roo didn’t begin with a business plan. It began with a mom, two little girls, and a sewing machine.
My mom, Annaline van der Merwe, made clothes for me, my sister, and so many other little ones in our small town. I still remember those outfits — soft, comfortable, and fun to wear. Getting dressed wasn’t just routine, it was playtime. I loved flipping through her patterns, pointing at the next one and saying, “Please, I want this one!” And she made it.
When my own baby girl was born, the dream carried on. I wanted her to have those same special outfits — the kind you don’t always find in stores with fast-changing fashion. Sometimes you just need something more: a personalised piece, a one-of-a-kind outfit that feels magical. That’s when we realised… we could make it possible.
There’s something extra special about passing down clothing. A piece made with love isn’t just fabric — it’s memory, it’s comfort, it’s a little part of family that lives on into the next generation.
